Remember Thanksgivings as a little tyke, when you were put at the rickety, corner card table known as the ‘kids table’ and given plastic dinnerware and cups while the adults supped from china dishes and crystal goblets? Where you got the hokey, plastic table cloth while the adults enjoyed silken, brocade fabric kissing their knees? Where you crunched on giblets and burnt stuffing in awkward silence while the adults (those abhorrent adults!) mirthfully filled their bellies with the choicest cuts of meat, delicious, sparkling beverages, and the freshest, most fragrant dishes?

Okay, so maybe I’m embellishing a little and it wasn’t that bad, but it actually was memories of sitting at the kids table on Thanksgiving back in the day, and thinking, “I want to sit with the adults!” that inspired Chef Justin Beckett’s idea for the summer dinner series, Grown-Ups Table. So, finally we (the children once relegated to that pathetic corner table), get to pull up a chair at the big kids table and enjoy all the perks that go with it!

Grown-Ups Table, offered select Wednesdays during June, July and August, invites patrons to gather around a community table with about 12 other diners, and enjoy a sumptuous three-course meal (served family style), featuring Justin’s elevated American fare, and select beverage pairings. Part of the fun is that Justin doesn’t release the evening’s menu until the day-of (on social media), so even though you may have purchased tickets for one of the dinners weeks in advance, you won’t know till that day (or when you arrive that night) what you’re actually partaking of.

During our visit, the incredible menu was as follows (written in Justin’s hand):

Our meal, which spanned about two hours, was a delightful experience. We talked about food and travel with our new acquaintances, chatted with Justin as he stopped by between courses (hearing about his recent, behind-the-scenes experience on Food Network’s Chopped was fascinating), sipped specially selected vintages, and ooh’ed and ahh’ed over our food, all while relaxing in comfortable, stylish surrounds.

If you’d like to participate in this unique dining experience, tickets are available on Beckett’s Table’s Facebook page HERE for $48 (tax and gratuity included). But hurry, because the 2018 series is almost sold out!

It may not be Thanksgiving, but it is time to take your proper place at the Grown-Ups table, and walk away with a full belly, a to-go bag of delicious leftovers, and new friendships.

But wait! There’s more!

If tickets for Grown-Ups Table are sold out when you visit the website, never fear, because their sister restaurant, Southern Rail, is launching a similar series called the Arizona CoLab Dinner Series. At these dinners, Justin collaborates with local vendors to come up with creative cuisine and beverages, allowing you to truly #supportlocal. Upcoming participants include Cutino Sauce Co., Noble Bread, Mesa Micro Farm, AZ Distilling Co., and Roastery of Cave Creek.

Similar to Grown-Ups Table, the CoLab dinners will be held select Thursdays in June, July and August, with diners gathering around a community table to enjoy inventive, flavorful dishes served family style, all for $48. For reservations to the CoLab Dinner Series, click HERE.
