On Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m., The Cosanti Foundation presents the first event in its City, Building, Land lecture series. Focusing on the future of cities, the event, held at Arcosanti, features keynote speakers June Williamson,  who will tackle the topic of “Retrofitting Suburbia to Salvage the Future of Northern American Cities,” and Wellington “Duke” Reiter, who will speak on “Desert Cities: A Future We Want.”

Overall, the series aims to find answers to questions such as:

How will cities change in the future?

How do we confront issues of sprawl?

How do we imagine the desert and desert cities?

How will desert cities of the future deal with land use, movement, migration and mobility?

Williamson, a registered architect and professor of architecture at the Spitzer School of Architecture at The City College of New York, will kick off the event at 11 a.m. At 12:15 p.m. session will break for lunch ($15) in the café. The event resumes at 1:30 p.m. with Reiter, the senior advisor to the president of Arizona State University and the executive director of the University City Exchange at ASU.
