Rather than shining light on lighted masterpieces in the show “Illuminate,” the West Valley Art Council (WVAC) is pulling the plug, allowing the guest experience to be illuminated only by the artwork itself.

The exhibition, which debuted Aug. 12 at WVAC’s Arts HQ Gallery at 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza in Surprise, will initially be lit by gallery lighting, giving viewers an opportunity to appreciate the artists’ skill and attention to detail.

Beginning with the Aug. 26 reception, the gallery will “go dark,” allowing art enthusiasts to fully “see the light” — only through these lighted large-format sculptures. For the remainder of the exhibition, through Sept. 9, the gallery will remain dark.

“Illuminate” features works from three local contemporary sculptors — Kevin Caron, Ceri Jones and Larry Ortega — who create masterpieces using metal, wood, minerals, resin and light. Patrons can view innovative practices in art such as 3D printed works, hanging gardens and bioluminescent minerals cast in resin.

    Date: Through Friday, Sept. 9

Location: The West Valley Art Council Arts HQ Gallery (address below)
