This week, Firecreek Coffee Company opens its fourth location in Arizona, at  4602 East Thomas Road. The new location offers residents of the Arcadia neighborhood delicious and mindfully crafted small batch coffee brewed with years of experience and a morning-through-afternoon menu of light bites and sweet delights made by a team of professional pastry chefs.

“It’s extremely rewarding to be back in the Phoenix area and to be continuing the Firecreek Coffee legacy here in the Valley,” says Mike Funk, founder of Firecreek Coffee Company. “We can’t wait to introduce our unique culture to the Arcadia neighborhood and look forward to becoming a part of the community for years to come.”

The new Firecreek Coffee Company café resides in Phoenix, but the ownership behind the company is anything but “new.” Funk certainly knows his way around a cup of coffee. Deeply involved in the industry since 1989, Funk, who started his coffee career in Seattle, has had his hands in nearly every aspect of the coffee industry including custom building espresso carts, importing machines, developing and opening coffee bars, and working to supply the hospitality industry with premium coffee.

In the mid 1990s, Funk moved to Phoenix to open Café Tech at 5th Street and McDowell Road, and in the early 2000s, he was at the forefront of third wave coffee, a superior, high-quality coffee that is scored like grapes in the wine industry. At that time, Café Tech supplied the specialty coffee industry with equipment, supplies and training, in addition to manufacturing carts and designing café interiors. In 2008, Funk started Firecreek Coffee Company with his flagship café in the heart of downtown Flagstaff and began supplying AJ’s Fine Foods and Whole Foods with his specialty coffee, which is currently available for consumer purchase.

To date, he continues to chase quality with each of his coffee shops. With additional northern Arizona locations in Sedona and Cottonwood, the Arcadia location is Phoenix’s first Firecreek, but it won’t be the last. In fact, Funk already has plans to develop an expansive roasting facility that will also serve as an event and concert venue located at 16thStreet and McDowell Road — so his coffee stomping “grounds” are literally coming full circle.

The Arcadia location of Firecreek Coffee Company offers guests the same exceptional mindfully crafted small batch coffee that his loyal customers in northern Arizona have come to expect from his specialty coffee bars. Menu items include delights such as House Granola with coconut, maple, fresh fruit and choice of milk; Chia Parfait with granola and fresh fruit; Daily Quiche, such as veggie or meet, with dressed greens; and House Salad with baby greens, tomato, avocado, toasted walnuts and Grana Padano cheese. Toast options include Fava Bean Puree with red onion, celery leaf, mint and Grana Padano; Avocado with tomato, Cotija and cilantro; Egg Salad with chives, dill, pickled onion and caper berries; and Smoked Salmon with capers, marinated cucumbers, red onion, Neufchatel and chive.

Diners can also enjoy panini selections including Truffled Goat Cheese with roasted red peppers, tomato, basil and kalamata olives; Egg, Cheddar and Bacon with tomato and onion jam; Prosciutto and Mozzarella with kalamata olives, tomato, balsamic and basil; and Turkey with avocado, tomato, onion, harissa and Havarti. House baked good are also available.
